The trustees of Metropolitan Museum of Art had cur down on the fieldwork they subsidized in Egypt, but took opportunity to authorize excavations — on a very small scale — in Iran. Shah Riza Pahlevi had abrogated the treaty that had given France sole permission to excavate in that country; thus it was possible to further the Museum interest in Sasanian art and Archaeology, which had begun with German at Ctesiphon in Iraq in 1931-1932.
